I believe we make our own decisions about how we will live our life, & respond to the things that happen, every day.
But I also believe that sometimes things happen to us that change our life, or our way of thinking & looking at the world.
What happened, & how did it change you?

Hurricane Charley.
Not just because it damaged my home, or was devastating to all of Florida. The day after the hurricane, I'm thinking I need to help my Mom, and clean up my house, and patch the roof and survive, the ex-husband sat on the floor all day in a crystal meth induced trance while he pored over old receipts and paperwork that had nothing to do with proactively solving our current problems. I decided not to waste anymore of my life hoping that maybe one day I might be able to influence him to straighten up. I decided that he didn't love me, and likely never did, otherwise he never would have started using drugs, and lying about it. I decided that there was nothing I could do for him other than to drown in his mess with him. I decided that hanging onto this destroyed marriage was not proof of my love for the person that he used to be, it was just stupid. I forgave myself for letting go of whatever it is that I can not control. Whatever happens, happens. Whatever you own, you will lose eventually. There is nothing that is here now that can't be gone tomorrow, and I'm okay with that. It's a much lighter load. My priorities are straight now, and I'm happy.
Cool question

Survived Cancer: Made me appreciate my own life more
Death of my youngest brother: Made me appreciate not only my own life more, but my family, other brothers & friends more.
House fire: Made me realize that material things really mean nothing compared to our LIFE and those we love.
Believe it or not I could go on..but my life would start to sound like a country-western song ..lol....

Yes, several but the ones that affected me the most was:
1/ when my 11 yr. old brother was killed in a car accident
2/ when my spouse passed away
3/ when I received a gift from GOD which I don't understand but have accepted it within my heart for the rest of my life......

I had cancer when my son was only 3. I prayed that I could live and be there to watch my son grow up. It's been two years. So far, so good. But, I stop and enjoythings more now.
