Do you think that it is right to try and legislate morality. Such as limits of free speech, gay marriage. And also, what laws do you view as a moral issue and not a legal one and what do you feel they should be?

Like charity (welfare, etc)? Isn't that legislating morality? Not legal according to the Constitution, either.

Morality, like the inheritance tax so that those greedy [cast that stone!] rich people pay their 'fair' share?

And isn't it legislating morality to call murder, rape, pedophilia, etc 'crimes'? What if cutting the heart out of virgins as a sacrifice was part of my religion? Would you legislate your 'morality' on me?

And what about legislating fuel economy standards, and regulating the amount of water I flush, or the gallons / minute rate of my showerhead? Or whether I beat my dog?

You see, it is difficult to separate law from morality, harder than you think.

It is not only right, but it is absolutely necessary to maintain some reasonable controls on people's actions in public and even in covert ways that negatively affect society. Movies and TV today would be even more full of obscenity than they are now without some the very limited controls on "free speech" that now exist.
