Ah. The age old question. I think most VH fans like Roth better. He had "it". Combo of voice and stage presence. There is always something to say about being the first lead singer of a band.
Sammy however has the commercial success. Only #1 album was with Sammy. I'm trying but can't think of a band that had major success with one singer then succeeded as much with the second.
I think its all a matter of opinion. I just listen and enjoy both.

Hagar made Van Halan music meaningful. Roth made it fun. I personally liked Hagar better because they matured as a band. I know I am going to get a bunch of **** for saying this but I really don't care. I did recently see David Lee Roth about three years ago in Cincinnati. He's still got it. : )

Roth!! No comparison. Dave is the ultimate showman and co-creator of Van Halen. Hagar with Van Halen was a just a music industry product.

Roth was way better in Van Halen. But Hagar had a much better solo career.

Roth. With Roth, Van Halen was a great band. After him, Van Hagar was a mediocre but popular band with great guitars.

David lee roth, He just has the right voice to match the music halen plays. Hagar sounds like a def Lep reject.

David Lee Roth..WAS Van Halen..
I went to one of their concerts at the peak of their popularity..and OMG..it was a Craazzzyyy experience.. David was energetic and just plain awesome!! He put the cock in COCKY!
Van Hagar never lived up to what David created.

Roth with the Van Halen boys. Because Sammy had it goin on solo, rocked me good. DLR only kicked *** solo when Steve Vai played w/ him, and thats the reason Yankee Rose, etc. kicked!
