I've never tried Pro-Active, but I think I tried everything else and nothing worked. I was only able to manage the problem--and only that if I was very diligent. I am 50 years old and still have very oily skin much of the time. Seems like the more I tried to dry it up the worse it got. I believe, after years of observation, that it has to do with hormone balance. When I took birth control pills I was not as oily. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option for me because taking them caused me to develop blood clots. There are films and papers that help remove oil without removing your makeup up or damaging your skin (like chemicals). I don't know your age but for me oily skin must have been a good thing because I am frequently told I could pass for much younger. My sister is 2 years younger than I am and did not have oily skin. We have difficulty getting along because people always assume she's the older sister. So even though it has always been a nuisance I guess being oily has its advantages. Good luck managing this problem.

you can't really dry up an oily face but you can use products that will help keep your pores and oil glands under control and help with the problems that occur with an oily skin type. Just make sure you research the products and read the labels carefully; i have very oily skin and have had horrible luck when i just bought whatever off of the shelf for my face, makeup or face wash.

The great advantage of oily skin is that it ages at a slower rate than other skin types. Oily skin needs special cleansing with plenty of hot water and soap to prevent the pores from being clogged. Avoid harsh products that strip your skin of oil and encourage flakiness. They can cause a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the oil glands work overtime to compensate for the loss of natural oils. I have oily skin and I use Arbonne Skin ccare Regimen. The difference in these products is that they deliver exactly what your skin need with their technology called nanospheres. I use to have lots of acne and blemishes but not anymore. They are botanically based products formulatted without animal products and without mineral oil which is the 2nd worse thing we could do to our skin!!! Avoid skincare products that leave your skin feeling taut and dehydrated. They cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink. This restricts oil flow through the pores leading to blockages and breakouts. To cleanse oily skin, use oil-based products as they dissolve sebum effectively. Keep your skin very clean. Limit washing your face to two or three times a day. Too much washing will stimulate your skin to produce more oil.
Do not use cleansers or lotions that contain alcohol. I use NutriMinC RE9 Hydrating Wash. Use hot water when washing your face. Hot water dissolves skin oil better than lukewarm or cold water. I use thier toner after washing.
Try using a clay or mud mask. If you have sensitive skin, use white or rose-colored clays, i use arbonne's deep pore clenasing masque and thier thermal fusion masque, works great and closes your pores.
Maybe too much info but definately helpful.

I use a shine free moisturizer in the morning after I shower. It works great. I wish I could remember the name of it. It's in a little green bottle, I get it at WalMart in the cosmetic department. If I think of the name I will let you know.

Alcohol on a cotton swab... works everytime.... well, it has to be used in conjunction with Apricot Scrub, but if you're in hurry, just rubbing alcohol.
