Yvonne Ridley converted after she was released.

Basically she really was abusive to the Taliban and in return they showed her a lot of respect and this hit a cord as they were the opposite to what the west portrayed them to be.

On her release she read the Quran and decided to convert and for all the haters it was an informed personal choice, made in the UK.

well i think that was kind of stupid but then too probably while she was being held ,something extraordinary happened and she probably took to that. she probably also finally felt that she finally belonged somewhere and felt comfortable in that religion. But then too you are discriminating because it is not everyone in that country doing bad. one bad apple spoils the basket. you are technically sayin that only people of islamic religion kidnap and that is not so. Half of the people around the world who kidnap are mostly of one main religion. So would you change your religion if you found out it was the same religion you are. would it change a thing in the world ? no. Do you see my point

I hadn't heard about this. I don't know the circumstances but if she truly made a free choice, why not? She would have learned about the faith etc and presumably decided that that was the religion for her. If she did not have a free choice then she is probably not really converted.

I think if I were captured by the Taliban, I would convert to Islam too. But I would have my fingers crossed.

To be honest, I didn't know about that. Although, if she had a choice of dying or converting, I would have converted. If she was freed and then decided to convert, she must have been severely brainwashed to believe that it could be a good thing.

I don't know about her, but I don't think I would judge her anyway. Who knows what is in people's hearts? I wouldn't like to say she was brain washed any more than anybody else who joins a religion.

If she wanted to, that is her perogative, if she didn't, that is brainwashing, the only people who brainwash are stupid cults or extremists

As long as she had freedom of choice, she's entitled to be what-ever she wants. If she did it to save her life, then I would too.

She was tortured and coerced. She is not an actual convert.
