Do they just sort of absorb the water, or do they drink the salt water without getting dehydrated?

They drink salt water, but eliminate the salt through their kidneys, which are better at doing that than, for example, human ones. If a human were to drink nothing but salt water, he'd die shortly, due to kidney failure as a result of salt buildup (believe me, I'm a biologist). The food they eat is just as salty as the water they drink. Shrimp and other invertebrates, as well as cartilaginous fish contain as much salt as their environment.

those tremendous ocean mammals use their nutrition to get clean water. even with the undeniable fact that in addition they can take up water as we do. we gained't take up salt water because water is interested in a more desirable salty section. it really is the reason at the same time as utilising water colorings, in case you position salt on the photo, it is going to take up the water and colour leaving the area lighter or white back. it really is likewise why we ought to have salt in our nutrition routine. when we devour salt on nutrition we are able to positioned that salt into our cells that could want to really help to attraction to bigger water into them the subsequent time we drink. even with the undeniable fact that, if we drink salt water it is going to likely be more desirable salty outdoors of the cells, and hence the cells will dry out. tremendous mammals like whales and seals are able to handle this more desirable salt content cloth of their water because they themselves have a extreme salt content cloth. it isn't a remember of salt or no salt, that is an argument of which has more desirable salt. because that their bodies have more desirable salt in the cells, they're able to take up water from the salty sea.
