Canon and Olympus have a pretty good price-quality ratio. I've been using Canon for the last 7 years. I own a PowerShot 510 and it's fine.

Keep in mind that if you don't plan to print pictures, the lowest megapixels will be more than enough. If you plan to print pictures, then you'll need at least 3.2 megapixels.

1. Find a cam that has high megapixel
2. High OPTICAL zoom is better than digital zoom
3. Find those that consume batteries that are easily available
4. It is also important that the cam is easy to use.
5. I recommend Canon and Olympus brands.

Depends what you want it for, I had bought a Polaroid forget the model, for 79.00 had 5.0 MP, but it wouldn't take close up pictures of small objects. I realized I needed to have "optical zoom", so I just bought a Polaroid i532 at wallyworld for 150.00, and it works great for what I need. Just go check out the stores and compare the prices (also check ubid.com)and decide what you want to do with it. I recommend looking at the models in the stores first though if you decide to buy online.

Sony cybershot is great but get it in 5 mega Pixels .... Better resolution for sure and you would only have to add 40-50$ to the above price

Canon is right at the top of the list...

They have their A series and tehir S series...

A series is a bit bulkyer but less pricy

S series (now known as the SD series) are more compact but cost a bit more

the sony cybershot is a good bet. it is 3.2 Megapixel and only about 200 bucks. You can get it at best buy

I have a Kodak digital....Only cost like $98 @ wal-mart......Takes real good pics
