I saw it....we read an article in our local paper a few weeks back.
they tested on RATS...not humans....US can create a heat, if done in excess of 30 minutes.....which can bother the baby.
IT CAN NOT CAUSE HARM.
according to this article.
I also work in radiology, and there have been no patients with babies harmed from ultra sound. I think it's a bunch of crap

The study was done on mice and may or may not be applicable to humans. Because of the size of the mother, the brains of unborn mice are much closer to the surface and may therefore have more opportunity to be negatively affected by ultrasound. On the other side of the argument, human brains are much more complex and there is more room for error if the developing nerve cells are negatively affected. The authors of the study suggest having only medically necessary ultrasounds until there is more research clarifying the potential effect on humans.

OF COURSE they tested it on rats! What human mother would allow herself and her baby to be a test subject?
The ACOG has actually recommended for a long time that ultrasounds NOT be done as a routine procedure, but only when they are medically indicated. Many caregivers still choose to ignore this recommendation and do routine ultrasounds of all pregnant patients.

yes according to Dr Weingarten M.D of Duke Medical School there is a correlation between a fetus who had an ultra sound and lower average grade scores for teens in reading comprehension and math. although not enough research has been done in this field to come up with a definitive answer it does appear the ultra sound makes your kid a little stupider in later life and thats all.

They found that it can affect brains in mice, but have not found it in humans yet. Because there are several differences they don't know whether or not people should be concerned, but recommend you have the least number of ultrasounds possible.

I've heard about it too and I think what they were really concerned about was the "Tom Cruise" style of doing ultrasounds where he went out and bought his own to do an ultrasound probably everyday. I'm sure it's perfectly safe - look at all the mothers who have had ultrasounds and their babies have turned out fine. :)

My mom saw something on the news suggesting that ultrasounds not be done very often unless there is a need. She couldn't remember why though.

It was on Yahoo news a few weeks ago but it has not yet been proven. It only has been studied on mice.
If it was really a concern then doctors would discontinue using ultrasound.
