Try high-fiber cereal. I use Fiber-one (yucky, but effective) Raisin Bran has almost as much fiber as the yucky kinds. prunes are very effective. and be sure that you are drinking more water and fruit juice than you really want to. I get more water by chewing on ice. I don't like to just drink all day, but the crunchy ice is appealing. I don't have to use prunes now that I intake more liquid.
Remember, your metabolism adjusts during pregnancy. Your whole digestive system slows down so that your body can absorb the most nutrition. Sometimes, your frequency of BM's will change due to the slower system.
Don't eat mass quantities of cheese, and meat without plenty of fresh veggies.
Your OB/GYN will have a list of "safe" meds...if all else fails. Your baby will appreciate the healthier diet, though. Remember, foods that help you go, help the baby grow!!
Good luck, I know it is miserable.
(If you have a great deal of discomfort after "going," try tucks medicated pads to relieve the area so that the next time won't be so bad. You can even leave one in place while you are close to home to allow the witch hazel to sooth your posterior)

Benifiber...it comes in a powder form (also pills) so you can mix it in your water or food. Worked pretty good. Also take a stool softener like Colace. Both are safe during pregnancy. Keep up with the Colace after baby is here as well. You body changes quickly after birth and it's hard to "go" right away.
