This question is asked by my first grader daughter and I could not answer her properly. Can you help.

I think its because we 'train": our mind that this is the way to do things and we will keep doing them...especially it we like them...I have a habit of shaking my leg for no reason...but since i like it...Ive trained my brain to know to do it too ...

It takes around 30 days of doing one constant thing for it become a habit. This happens because the brain is accustomed to doing that one thing everyday. So it does it naturally. It's just programmed.
It also takes 30 days to break a habit. Which can explain why people that quit smoking for 30 days have a much better chance of not starting up again.

a habit is something that a person does over and over again because they can't stop. They begin to like it to much just like you like a favorite TV show and whenever it's on you have to watch it.

humans are creatures of habit. Our brains want routine because it makes us feel safe. thats why most people fear change.
