Oh, where should I begin? Since everyone noticed the CROWS in Dumbo, let's start THERE. Sure, EVERYONE remembers the crows.
Why does no one recall the actual black MEN pitching the circus tents in the rain toward the beginning of the movie. The song they sing contains lyrics like, "We work all day, We work all night, We never learned to read or write; We work all night, we work all day; And can't wait to spend our pay away." The song continues with other derogatory lyrics, reinforcing the stereotypes of blacks as ignorant workhorses who DESERVE to be slaves.
This is not an urban LEGEND, as one of the Answerers implies. It's ON TAPE! If u don't believe me, just watch the goddamn DVD.
There are, of course, COUNTless examples: too many to list here. Once you've read all the Answers, watch almost any Disney movie (especially the animated ones) and the subliminal AND overt racism should become quite apparent to you.
And, as far as one Answerers assertion that Disney himself wasn't racist but the CARTOONS were, puhleeeeze. When will people realize that you cannot blame IGNORANCE on a time period. Even when slavery was LEGAL, there were ABOLITIONISTS, proving that COMPASSION (like EVIL) is a timeless, HUMAN trait. Just because racist propoganda was more common (and easy to get away with) during certain time periods doesn't make it any more JUST or EXCUSABLE.
Disney's cartoons were racist not because of the era, but because his precious Walt Disney Studios was bankrolled by Nazis.
Read Fast Food Nation 4 further examples & confirmation of my allegations.

Well I didn't notice until having children. Watch some of the older Disney movies. For instance, in Dumbo there are 2 sets of "implied black characters".
1. The railroad workers who set-up the circus are black shaded with no faces. They also sing a song that says "we work all day we work all night we never learn to read or write...we work all day we get our pay and when we do we blow our pay" That within itself was shocking; yet, comical.
2. The crows who speak in broken english "well i be's done seen't bout e'erything" WHAT???
Do i boycott Disney...no! It was a sign of the time. Its a little disturbing to know but I don't spend time wasting thoughts on things that don't affect my daily well being.
There are alot more but I can't stop to type. Plus they say he was blatant about his racial preferences

Disney in itself is not racist, but mirrors the what is culturally acceptable for its time. A good example is the scene with the singing crows in Dumbo. I think it is totally racist, but when the movie was made, that is how our country stereotyped blacks...
You can pull out a bunch of classic cartoons and see similar...even old Bugs Bunny cartoons are very racist - portraying blacks only as illiterate servants or tribal warriors. More recently, the Disney movie Aladdin was touted as racist by Arabs because of the scene where the merchants were about to cut off Jasmine's hand for stealing.

I dont even konow. I always see other cartoons (like Family guy) and they had Walt Disney in a frozen time capsul and they defrosted him. When he woke up he said " Are the Jews Gone" and the man said no. Then Walt Disney froze himself again.

I wouldn't call them racist...but there were a few stereotypes that they used in their movies...
The crows in Dumbo, they way that they spoke was very honest to the way that African Americans spoke at the time.

Well, in Disneyland they are. They have to be.
For example, in Epcot they hire only Japanese people to work in the Japanese pavilion, Spanish looking people in the Mexican pavilion, Chinese, etc... I don't think that Tyrone working in the Japanese Pavilion would be convincing or authentic to the visitors.
