New York and LA are big business cities. It's all about making money. You go where you can make the most money. Talent scouts and ppl like record executives and things like that base thier companies in these cities to attract attention and make claim that they can actually afford to stay there and run thier business. Also because of the mixed background of ppl that live in those areas. Its easy to find new talent and, therefore make more money, where there are many different types of ppl. Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami are also big cities that stars like to stay in/be seen in because of the attention it garners.

The Letterman show is in New York. All of the morning talk shows are in New York. Celebrities go on these shows to hawk their new films, CDs or what ever their latest money making project is.
While they are there, New York has great shopping, great restaurants, Broadway, etc. They have to money to do anything and get pampered by the best. What better place than New York?

New york is truly the city that never sleeps. there is always something going on be it at the clubs, the restaurants, or museums. new york has a fantastic night life and don't even get me started on how many stores there are for stars to splure their money at... Barney's... sak's....
