From what I've seen... I'd say an average of 30 years but will vary with horse breed and living conditions

Not sure what the first poster was thinking, but 14 is sort of like middle aged for horses. 20 - 25 years old is typically the age when owners stop hard work with the horse, but light work can still be carried on. Horses can live up to 35 - 40, maybe even older. Horses can die anytime. They could be a day old and perfectly healthy and something could happen.

Just depends on breed, health, genetics, and quality of life. Some horses live to 40 and are healthy, others die before 20. On average, however, 20-25 years is an average horse's life span. The record reported age of a horse, I believe, is 72.

Well my horse is 23 and is still kicking. She is worse than a newborn colt!! Most live til around 30 or 40 if they are taken care of properly.

But the stables (Blue Haven Stables) have horses in the 50s and 60s. That they still use for lessons. The horse I had at a lesson there was 55.

I've heard of an icelandic pony living til 60 or around that.

A very well cared for horse can live til 30 or 40

Some are gone around their 20's depending on circumstances

Of course they are lost before that as well....it all depends on breed and care and health

I worked at a equestrian center and she had two VERY elderly retired schooling horses. One was 40 and the other was 32... just depends on breed, size, health and quality of life....

completely and totally depends on their health and upbringing. I currently have a 27 y.o. Paint mare and we used to have a QH that lived to be in his ear;ly 30's. I think the record is set somewhere in the 40's.

we had a 23 yr old quarter horse who had to be put to sleep because he had severe arthritis in his legs...but vet said he was very healthy for being "old" and would have probably lived a lot longer
