My cat loves to crawl around behind my computer and he's always unplugging something, stepping on my power surge protector and turning it off. Gets kind of wild sometimes.

Daffy - don't worry about unplugging cables in the back to organize. Every cable in the back is either color coded or only fits in one type of receptacle. Just make sure you turn your computer off before you start moving wires around.

As most people here have already written, twist ties or zip ties are your best bet. If possible, unplug and untangle everything from the back.

Then one by one, start plugging in and keep things untangled. Using a tie about every 4 inches should keep things nice and tidy for you!!

Remember, all plugs have their respective places to plug in in the back. Just don't force anything and you will be fine.

Braid them together with flowers...
Paint them green so they blend into the environment...
Cut them all off because you don't need them anyways...
Macrame...

Twist ties can help tame them. Also some computer stores sell some 1/2 inch round vinyl soft tubing with a split down the side that you can put over the wires and only have the one tube. Big improvement.

Go to Office Depot or Staples or a store like that and for under $10 you can buy color coded cable ties. Easy to use and keeps the cables neat, tidy and easily recognizable.

I've seen a thing to put around them that kind of gathers them like a ponytail but it seemed like a waste of money to me. No one sees all the cords, so who cares?

you can use zipties or rubber bands. i am an it rep and whenever we install a bunch of equipment with cables everywhere, we take some zipties to bundle them all together.

If your computer is working, then nothing. Don't touch them unless you know EXACTLY what they're for.
