I totally agree with you!!
I believe God wants us all to have things we desire, but within reason. There is a thing called moderation. People are only thinking about what feels good for the moment, instant gratification, and it feels powerful to show they have a lot of money to turn heads- it commands "respect." But thinking a little deeper, it really just shows how big a jerk they are, to always want to call so much attention to themselves. I'm sorry, but there is more to being respected than having money. It's what you do with it to help others that is important. That goes for all of us, no matter what our income, but especially those who have so much. Let's put it in perspective- one day of shopping for some of these people could feed a lot of people for a pretty good while, or for the price of one of their cars, a sick poor person could afford medication to stay alive, or a single mom could buy a home. The list goes on and on. There are so many good people who are working hard to make ends meet, who could be helped. With our society glorifying materialism so much, it is extremely hard to teach your children to be moderate and just be happy with a less complicated life.

It's not the media, but the CONSUMER of the media that's at fault. We keep watching the programming, they will keep on producing it.
I don't personally buy the argument that the media seduces us into accepting only perfect bodies and the latest fashions as the only acceptable images. Those that subscribe to that idea are those who have given up their free will to choose.
If I want the big SUV instead of the economy car, then it is my choice, not General Motor's advertisement's. If I want the home with the extra bedroom, it's my money and my choice to have that luxury.
That also applies to those that have earned so much money, that they can afford to insert diamonds into their teeth, or gold implants into their cat's teeth. How do they make such obscene amounts of money? We GIVE it to them, in exchange for plastic discs of tunes, ticket stubs to the theaters, paperback books for our shelves.
Like Pogo said in the old cartoon strip, "We have met the enemy, and it is us."

It does bother me, because it can make a young person idolize those people and wish they were part of that world, to the point where their own life, job, family, etc. seems boring and inadequate. It also fosters envy, which kids don't need in their already considerable repetoire of negative emotions. The bottom line is that celebrities have the right to do whatever they want with their money, but I'm not interested in watching them do it, and neither are my kids.

I was watching a show on VH1 about celeb parties. Sick!! All these ppl getting gift bags for showing up worth up to $10,000, all the stuff donated by companies wanting to be attached to a star.
No wonder these punk stars think they're so special.

it is down right obscene. I can not even bear to watch these shows knowing thousands of people are dying from starvation and prevenatable/treatable diseases every day. It is gluttony and completely immoral!!!! these people will all be judged one day--there is a saying that goes something like this," to those who have been given much...is expected much." these people are duped into belieiving that they are somehow "special," because they are wealthy!

i think it's wrong because most of the time they're getting that stuff for free. i think it is rediculous that athletes, and entertainers make such outrageous amounts of money. it's not like they work harder than someone at burger king, or a phone center, or a construction worker etc....

If you hate it why do you watch it enough that you feel the need to post this question? No it's not wrong the way they are portrayed, it's just how they are, what's wrong is that people actually pay attention to that type of thing.

Since the public is willing to over pay to go to the movies, to go to sporting events, to go to rock concerts, buy CDs, etc. they have an over abundance of money. I don't care how they spend it, I think the obscene part is our being willing to pay the tab for it.
So, I don't watch shows like that.

I totally agree with you because it should not be advertised like that. It makes a person feel bad because they do not have what these celebrities have ..
