Why FSN Chicago had to go off the air but the other FSN member networks(FSN West, FSN Bay Area, MSG, etc.) stayed on? Anyone know why?

The major investors of FSN Chicago (formerly Sportsvision/Sportschannel) were the White Sox, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks. Because they figured they could make more money and have more creative control over their product than licensing it, all four sports teams decided to pool their resources into Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Since FSN Chicago had no local product to produce, they had no choice but to shut down.

What those teams did is no different than what the Red Sox and Yankees had done in recent years in either buying or creating their own sports station to produce their own team's broadcasts.
