Yahoo free email service does not support pop3 servers needed for outlook and other email clients. You can pay a monthly fee for enhanced service that includes pop3 access.
Both Google and MSN Hotmail offer free email that will work with email clients.

If you want to open you Yahoo email in Outlook, you have to sign up for the paid Yahoo Plus email. You can not do it with the regular free version. When you sign up for Yahoo Plus, they will send you the information for Outlook set up.

The "addresses" you will need are:
pop.yahoo.com and smtp.yahoo.com.

you are going to get alot people telling you that you cant do that or youll have to pay for it
that is not right
you need to download ypops from yahoo then install it
in outlook for the pop and smtp info type in local host
and that should do it
just make sure when ever you are going to open outlook you open ypops 1st or if you use outlook frequently you can have ypops start with windows

Outlook is a Microsoft product, thus the reason why it works with Hotmail (another Microsoft product) by default

BUT, you can access your Yahoo mail via POP mail server, but it cost extra.

you dont use any url
i think you mean the server address
they'll only let you use outlook if youre using the paid version of yahoomail
or maybe i just dont know how to set it up for outlook
im using mozilla thunderbird
it's just another mail client like outlook
but way better
you can access yahoomail (well, in fact, almost any mail acct) even if it's the regular one
and you dont need a 3rd party program to do it
you just need to instally a couple of extensions
just search for it in their website

update: once you've installed mozilla firefox, you can search for the "Webmail extension". it comes with a "webmail yahoo" and "webmail hotmail". you can access your yahoomail and hotmail even if youre not using the premium service

You can't POP mail from Yahoo! to Outlook unless you pay for their premium service.
You might try: http://www.ypopsemail.com/
It's a program that supposedly will let you do that, but I haven't tried it.

the pop server is:
pop.mail.yahoo.com

but, you will have to pay for it. it is available under the mail plus premium services (which currently costs $19.99/year). to sign up for mail plus, go to the mail options page and click on the mail plus link.
