Led Zepplin or Queen. AC/DC is kind of considered metal-depending on who you are talking to.
To me The Clash is the best band but that fits into punk rock and so does not answer your question correctly.

I think the answer to that would be the Eagles. They aren't goth or heavy metal but their music is a great mixture of rythem, blues, and down-to-earth rock. I love them.
