The census bureau can tell you a lot about who lived in your home. The historical society may have information if it is an old home. You can also go to the county assessors office to find out when it was built, who paid taxes on it, etc. You may be able to find out who the builder or architect was by visiting the planning or engineering department in your city. If there were additions made to the orginial structure, the permit department can tell you when the permits were pulled and for what.

You can find out some stuff through the county auditor's website. But generally, it's only the most recent purchase that's on there.

Do you have a friend in real estate? They have access to the history, size, and who has owned the home through realtor websites.
