Are you talking about email? Email is NOT anonymous. Everything has an ISP number attached (internet service provider).
In my school an anonymous email was sent to the police. They tracked it with no problems. I am not sure that you can track it on your own, but if it is something where you are seeking legal action then it can be traced.

I'm afraid I need more information before answering this question. When you refer to an address are you talking about a physical address and by doing this how has it hurt many people?

Sent where and how? Are you talking over the net, emails, regular mail, text messages what??? Sorry but people will need more info to be able to help you here.

If it's an email address they might be able to find out which computer the account was set up on... I think it's called an IP address but I am not sure...

If through the US Mail, then it's considered mail fraud, its a felony punishable under federal law. Contact your state attorney general's office, they usually have people that track stuff like this. Good luck.

If you're talking e-mail, you probably can't find the source without a lot of help from the FBI.
