will my baby have birth defects or down syndrome?

Talk to your OB. Sometimes the test is accurate, sometimes it gives a false positive. An amnio is the only way to know 100%, but is it worth the added risk of miscarriage? Does it really matter that much to know before the birth?

Our screen came back with a higher chance of DS. We did NOT do the amnio. My baby boy was born with DS. He's the best kid! Wow he is so great. He's now 3, a big brother, and a good one at that. So sweet!

DS is not the end of the world. Remember that.

While I know its hard, TRY not to let it bother you. I had an abnormal triple screen with my daughter too and the stress until the retest just about killed me. They finally retested and everything was fine. It was normal then. The doctor said most likely the first time I simply wasnt as far as long as what we thought. Breathe deep and relax! My daughter was 8lbs of happy and healthy baby!

No need to worry, you will probably need to take an amniocentesis though... Good luck
( I'm 17 1/2 weeks too!)

You need to contact your OB doctor and discuss this with them.

From now on when you see your OB doctor and you have a concern ask questions.

Call them now and talk to the nurse at the OB office
