Modern uses are largely restricted to small sizes, particularly in musical instrument making, including piano and harpsichord keys, and violin and guitar finger boards, pegs and chinrests. Traditionally, black piano and harpsichord keys were ebony, and the black pieces in chess were made from ebony, with holly wood (of similar texture, but white) being used for the white pieces. Modern East Midlands-style lacemaking bobbins, also being small, are often made of ebony and look particularly decorative when bound with brass or silver wire.

Ebony is a very hard, dark wood. Here's alink that tells you all about it:

Sometimes, as in the song Ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, ebony refers to a black person's skin, but I don't think any black people find the phrase offensive - there's even a magazine called Ebony.

No. In fact, there is a magazine called "Ebony". Also, many clothiers use the term "Ebony" during fittings. Finally, the black keys on a piano are termed "Ebony". Ebony is a classy, way of saying black.
