Hmm...I think I disagree with you. I think abusers know that animals have feelings; they just don't care. Or they get a sick pleasure out of making them suffer.
I think they do it because they are frustrated with life, probably not very intelligent, have likely failed in romance and friendship, and just can't seem to get their act together. So, they look for something that they can take their frustrations out on--often being pets. Notice that serial killers often start by abusing animals. It is a huge warning sign that someone is going to become violent against humans later on in life, as well.
The animal abuse laws are not strict enough. Instead of the slaps on the wrists that we see so often, if they faced hard prison time, they might think twice about their actions.

They're SICK!!!! And that's not meant in a compassionate way! They're mean people who have no self-respect and no balls to stand up to someone as big as them.
Sorry, but this topic upsets me so much and makes me so angry I can't begin to think about it long enough to rationalize their reason for abusing a helpless animal. Worse than abusing a child in my book. At least a child has the ability to tell someone about the abuse. An animal is totally helpless.

It's a power trip. Like murderers who target certain types of people. You notice they never go after anyone who could give them any kind of fight. As an animal lover, people who abuse animals need to be punished in the same way they treated the animals. I like animals more than I like most people :o)

Its because they are mentally ill. Maybe they grew up in an abusive or dysfuncitonal household. Whatever the reason, they must have a screw loose - mental illness is all that I can blame. Generally speaking, animals are defenseless, so they are an easy target. Well, all I can say is I hope the animal protection laws are made more stringent. And karma is a 'mother'.

These sick twists hurt small animals because they know the animal is pretty much harmless & unless it can run away, they control it. They're cruel to animals because, while they'd rather brutalize humans, humans can fight back. After years of abusing animals, they usually"graduate" to humans. I'd like to take animal abusers & introduce them to a Kodiak Brownie with a toothache!

I agree with you totally. People that abuse animals have little cold hearts and no feelings. I have actually called the cops and hit a guy for kicking his dog, my husband thought I was nuts, but I cannot stand seeing animals being abused.

I think it is because people have to blow off some steam and if they do it to there animals they think that they won't get in as much trouble than if they beat a person.
