You can do what I do: Make your own traditions, and celebrate the way you feel like celebrating. I have never let any so called traditions dictate how my family celebrates any holiday. It's up to you to raise your children the way you want them to be raised, not society. My oldest is 14, and has never had an Easter basket. I don't think he'll be killing people because he didn't get any colored hardboiled eggs or stale Peeps from a ficticious creature.

Is your question about superficiality, or finance?

Oh, by the way, Thanksgiving is (historically) recent, and is not religious in nature.

And Easter was *never* about Christianity; it's a Celtic celebration of the Vernal Equinox, and features fertility motifs (bunnies, lambs, chicks, eggs) for that reason. Our ancestors celebrated Easter (from the Latin root "eostre", as in "estrogen"), so why not join in the fun!

All of the holidays you mentioned are man made. No where in the Bible does it say Christ was born on December 25th. Christ's death and Resurrection is what we should celebrate not his birth according to the Bible. This is why we are able to have forgiveness of sins and go to heaven.
