Well, I won't do your homework for you, but I will help you get started.

First, what are the characteristics of a formal writing process? List them out. Once you do that you can look at how each one helps produce a more effective paper. List those thoughts under the characteristics.

Next, flip the question around: what happens if you write a paper WITHOUT using a formal writing process? What kind of paper is produced? Where does it fall short?

Just scratch out your answers in a couple of lists, then go back and write your answer. You'll already have all the information you need, you just have to assemble it.

It helps sort of. It makes you really look at your paper and catch your mistakes. But it is harder to rewrite things where you have mistakes. Writing in the tradtional process is good because it helps your penmanship too. It also helps you work those muscles in your hands and fingers.
