I had one of the old paper kites that you had to glue and string to the balsa wood. I had it on a 1000 ft. reel of string which wasn't tied to the reel. I had all the line out and it flew off, flew through the neighborhood and into a field where the string tangled in the weeds and it continued to fly...and fly...and fly... on it's own. It stayed in the air for THREE DAYS tangled in that field, and we could see it from our house. Every morning and every night we would check to see if it was still there. It finally came down while we were at school on the third day. True story, happened in 1973 in Shawnee, OK. We found the kite about a half mile away by following the direction of the string, in a housing development that was under construction. It was all tore up!
From that moment on, I was HOOKED on kite flying! I fly kites with my kids now. My favorite is delta wing kites, we have plastic and canvas ones.

BA Baracas, cool! Erm, I mean, yeah I think I had kites but I don't remember ever getting one up in the air. I remember making one at school and we all went on a trip to fly them but there was no wind.

I had "top flite kites" -- bowed diamond kites, when I was a kid. They didn't fly well because I was tying the bridle at the wrong place and putting on too much heavy tail.
These days I make my own double-sled kites from polyethylene bags. They fly quite well.

Everyone should have a kite. Much better than a playstation.
Get a power kite and get truly blown away.

I had a Peter Powell stunt kite with 2 strings which very nearly pulled me over when there was slightly more than a breeze.

I have more now than when I was a kid. Love them. Ever been to Kitty Hawk? It's the greatest place to fly a kite.

My Dad took me out with my brother's Spot the Dog kite when I was 2, but it was so windy that when he handed it to me, I started to fly away (like piglet!)
I've never flown a kite since........

Yes. I flew kites when I was younger. All the kids on the street did. We would get them tangled. It was so much fun. We bought the inexpensive ones because we kept tearing them up. We had lots of those.
I bought one and took my daughter to the park. She did not find it as much fun as we did. She would rather find fun on the play station and the computer.
