Absolutely. Penny and Lowe have succeeded in the playoffs before. The Cardinals have Carpenter, Pujols, and fill-ins. The Mets are relying on Pedro (injured), and Glavine (possibly done for the year). They can hit, and with a break or two can pull it off.

I think so. It's time for the Dodgers to get there again. They've got a pretty good team this year, and right now, they're on fire. And their fans are pretty pissed off about the last 18 years of nothing and embarrassment. They have good pitching and that counts. They are a contender, they may go all the way. But don't hold your breath because at the end of the season they flake a lot. If they do go to the world series this year, I will come from the four corners of the earth to see it.

Any team that pitches the way the Dodgers have been has to be considered a World Series contender. Brad Penny has been a stud all year, and Derek Lowe and Chad Billingsley have been just as good during their team's hot streak. Add a future first-ballot hall-of-fame pitcher to the mix in Greg Maddux, and the rest of the rotation gets that much better because of the experience and leadership Maddux brings. Oh, and Takashi Saito has one blown save in sixteen chances.

The offense has been a question mark for the Dodgers this season, relying on untested youngsters like Wilson Betemit, Andre Ethier, and Russell Martin, as well as injury-prone veterans like Nomar Garciaparra, J.D. Drew, and Bill Mueller. Rookies Ethier and Martin have responded very well to the pressure, and Garciaparra has been superb. If the offense can hold it together for a few more months, the Dodgers have as good a chance as anybody.

I think that no team in the NL west can be considered as a serious contender to the World Series, i even find hard to believe to even get to NLCS because of the inconsistency of all the teams some times the Dbacks are in 1st place, some times the Padres, some times the Dodgers some times colorado; The team that has been more regular in this Division had been the Padres but i wouldn't consider them either.

they way they are playing and their pitching has been great. the cardinals and mets pitching is suspect due to injuries and there is no one in the wild card race that has equal pitching except for the astros but they produce very few runs. the diamond backs have brandon webb but are not playing well. they are even trying to trade shawn green to the mets.
i have said all season the mets would win the series but the way the yankees, tigers, and dodgers are playing i'm not so sure! if the twins get in then anything can happen if liriano is healthy. this means the twins would have liriano, santana, radke in company to pitch and nathan for the closer. they would be tough if mauer and cuddeyer start cranking out the hits and hunter and stewart bringing them home. if the white sox get in it will because of garland and jenks. buerhle and contreras need to pitch a whole lot better. their opponents are scoring to many runs no matter how many hits konerko, dye, thome, and crede get on base and score. as long as ozzie is running his mouth and jumping on his players then figure them out but if he changes like he was last year then they could be in it as well.
at the end of the day the dodgers are for real!

As much as anyone else. They have decent starting pitching, and a good bullpen.

Their biggest issue in the playoffs, is their lack of power. Teams like the Mets & Cards have power in the middle of the lineup. The Yankees, WhiteSox, RedSox, etc...all have tons of power, which can change a game at any time.

For the Dodgers to win the World Series, their pitching & defense will have to be dominating, to stop a lineup like either NYY, NYM or Chicago WhiteSox might have.

But this is baseball, and they have as good a shot as anyone.

Yes, the National League is not very good and the Dodgers have starting pitching and some decent bats... they may be the favorites at this point.

Yes. There isn't any team with dominant pitching so anyone can win given a hot streak. They could beat STL in the first series and then take on the Mets and if Pedro and Glavine are still out, it's anyone's to win.

Yes they Have a shot.
Good rotation and pen always goes places.
Their offense is fine, lacks power but if guys like Furcal and Lofton get on more frequently teams will be poised to give up runs as speed does thrill in this game.
