In football the breaks are worth it (commericals arn't, but just plays ending are :D). You're garunteed to get atleast a couple highlight-reel-worthy plays in EVERY game. Baseball on the other hand plays SLOW. Sure there's a double play or a homer once and a while. But if batters bat .2-.4 (broad cuz I don't know much baseball), that means they're hitting the ball less than half the time!! In football the QB completes his throw on average above 50% of the time (plus running to mix it up).

Football just has so many aspects (not just hitting and throwing/catching like baseball) that it's fun to watch.

I think this is due to the televising of sports in America. The breaks are for the adverts. They have said this is why football has never really caught on in the States as there are two 45minute halfs. There was talk of dividing the game into six 15 minute sessions or making quarters as opposed to halves so that it would be more attractive to TV sponsors and advertisers. Thankfully our beautiful game was not mucked about with.

When you fully understand the game a person learns to appreciate the stoppages. During those stoppages strategy and analysis is allowed to flow. I am mainly referring to football. Baseball and Cricket (sp) are to slow.

It's because when it comes to sport, the Americans have a very short attention span and need lots of points and breaks. That's why 'Real' Football, despite being the most popular sport in the world, has never really taken off in the U.S in the same way as just about everywhere else. They can't cope with a goal less 90 minutes. That's not a critisism....you could say that the rest of us have greater boredom thresholds...I dunno.

they're all about getting commercials in - it's annoying but you do get used to them. Baseball can be downright brutal with all the pitching changes, and football kills me when they keep coverage going while a player is injured, finally cut to commercial, then come back for one play and go to commercial again.

I enjoyed watching the world cup this year for that very reason. I wish I liked soccer more.

As a player out there on the gridiron, you get used to it. Gives you a chance to catch your breath.
As a fan of the sports, it can be annoying, but you adapt to it and get on with life. And then cry when you miss a huge play because you went to get a beer.

football is extremely strategic. it's like a hard hitting chess match. so each play is like a move on the chess board. the breaks in between each play are a chance for both teams to stratagize about the next play. it's a thinking mans sport. baseball is just boring.

Our english soccer is so much better. Would hate it to have all those stoppages for video replys etc, which they keep talking about doing. Keep the beautiful game the same.

ps, Can I take you out for dinner? hehe

when these games were invented during the civil war, the british and irish an native americans used to play alot together. many carried pistols and some bows and arrows...they had to be alot more careful about offending each other, so they had alot of talky-talky breaks. Customary to this day.

Hi K! Its because they make a day of it. Not just a 90-minute thing such as our English football. G. xxx
