These people had a hitchhiking race across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver. It took a month. But yeah, guess that means half way is possible. Especially if you have more time than money.

In BC it is illegal along the 4 lane major highways. Lots of signs up on those.

Do NOT hitchhike, you'll be sure to be picked up by a serial killer or rapist.... It's technically illegal too although you could probably get away with it.

If you are planning on going all the way to B.C. take the yellowhead trhough Edmonton and meet up with trans canada in Kamloops. Illegal to hitch-hike in Calgary city limits, Edmonton, it is okay.
