It's hard to say exactly why it was so cool but I'll fathom a guess. In the 80's the specter of a global nuclear war loomed over everything. Indeed, many of the movies of the day featured nuclear war, nuclear destruction, or a post-nuclear wasteland as it's main storyline. War Games, Red Dawn, Mad Max, A Boy And His Dog, I could go on and on. With all that we had to be scared of I think the music tried to be upbeat, fun, and "poppy" or else it told the story of our collective fear. We tried to have fun because we did not want to think about the alternative. That "have fun" attitude must have helped in the creation of some really good music. At least that's my opinion.

The 80s was the last decade of really decent top 40 music. The 90s were okay, not spectacular. With each ensuing decade rock has deteriorated . This garbage which is being played today is so bad, well, let's just say I'm glad I'm an oldies fan.

Well if you dig it then that is great, it was my era and I loved most of those movies, and the music was something else, we have definitly filtered a fsater pace a quick stepping and the music was just easy to get into without so much fast confusion. Simplier times perhaps, when will get the videos back on MTV ?and they actually play the whole thing, and enough with the hoochie mamas and wet shirts and little shorts where did the art go???

It was the era of excess…Hair, clothes, music everything was over the top.
I think the music from that era was so good because we(as a culture) were coming out of all the political tree hugging music of the 60’s and 70’s to a more fun type of music. It started the whole partying clubbing thing too!!

Not all of it was cool. Mostly Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, The Cars, DEVO and junk like that.
The early 80s was a lot like the mid 60s in that you had a lot of really weird, wonderful bands pop up and then disappear. It was a time where it was acceptable to be different.

It was fusion music, the combination of rock, punk, heavy metal, pop, and motown with a hint of disco. The fusion of almost every generation of music before and the introduction to new music and videos to be seen in your living room not at a studio please remember the agen taht we are in now whre music is available on T.V. was not the normal genere before 1980 and thus a greater auidence and appriciation for the music please remember the inclusion of synthesizers and pretty musicians.

Life wasn't so difficult then as it is now. The 80's was all about love, big hair, and the dorky attire. The music rocked! I love the 80's!
