Ok, my friend has been having unprotected sex with a 34yr old woman, and he is 21. He claims that she told him that she couldnt get pregnant because of her age and her bad heart condition, so he doesnt use protection and he doesnt pull out. Its been going on for about 6 months now and so far, she has not got pregnant. Again she is 34yrs old with a bad heart condition, plus she is a heavy smoker. Is age a factor in fertility, or is he just lucking out so far? Because surely she would be pregnant after 6 months of unprotected sex.

Unless she's had her tubes tied, he's probably just lucky. A heart condition won't keep her from ovulating- only menopause and birth control do that. And plenty of smokers get pregnant everyday. Also sounds like it's about time for him to get tested for HIV, syphillis, etc. ...

OK....age is sometimes a factor but 34 is not old enough for that to come into play... if she was 54 i would say ya... the heart condition could come into play some, depends on if she is on lots of meds. Some medications play a role into infertility meaning she might not be able to get preg. I am thinking they have just been really..really lucky.. If she does not have any kids from anyone else at that age and has not used anything in the past to protect her she might be infertile..but i don't know her whole story.. if i was him i would start using something..or have him talk to her about getting on something. if birth control is an issue because of her heart then there are tons of other options... good luck to him...

ps....the pull out does NOT keep you from getting pg....there is sperm in your pre-ejaculation and believe me you can still get pg...

A woman can get pregnant all the way up to menopause. Women getting pregnant after the age of 40 is very common. A bad heart condition has not one thing to do with whether or not a person can get pregnant.

Age can be a factor. I was 34 when my hubby and started ttc. It took me a year to conceive because of a number of reasons, but mainly because I didn't ovulate regularly. If this woman smokes with a heart condition, it doesn't sound like she takes very good care of herself and shouldn't get pregnant. The fact that she hasn't yet, doesn't mean that she can't. My niece was told she probably would never conceive because she had a severe case of endometriosis. She has two healthy daughters. If your friend doesn't want children yet, then he should take precautions anyway.

i'm 36. I fairly have 5 babies, and we only had our first ever m/c in sept of 2006. I continually concept-approximately myself as being VERY fertile. I have been given pg with #5 after having intercourse a million time that entire month, and my cycles have been so in all places from bf my 4th new child that I had no thought while i grow to be ovulating. Now i'm having to take clomid via fact the m/c the two messed me up hormonally or mentally and that i've got no longer been ovulating. i'm on my 1sy cycle and hoping i do no longer choose a 2d...that's fairly unfamiliar territory for me.

Unless she has had a hysterectomy - she still likely has at least a slim chance of being fertile. Many women can concieve into there 40's so age shouldn't prevent conseption.

And for personal experience my wife and I took 8 months to concieve our second child - she was 19. So sometimes your lucky, or not, how quickly one becomes pregnant.

I'd at least have her visit an OBGYN for a fertility exam...

Plus - doctors believe many, maybe most, women have ultra-early term miscarrages - within a few days of conseption. Maybe thus far your friends lady just hasn't been able to due to health reasons to carry a child.

Either way - I wouldn't risk it if they don't wish to start a family

He's just lucking out. Maybe she shouldn't get pregnant because of her heart condition, but that's another story. There are couples that take a lot of time to get pregnant, so she might be just lucky, or she's wanting to carry a baby so that he feels obligated to marry her. I'm not sure about that, but I think she's either completely uninformed, or is using your friend naivete to her gains.

He should use a condom, besides pregnancy, there are STD, and they're not nice.

At the age of 34 a woman can become pregnant. Fertility declines slowly as a woman ages, but 34 year old woman has a great chance of pregnancy. other medical problems could be present that have interfered with her getting pregnant.

Smoking is a risk factor for infertility, but not the heart condition. I've know 40 year olds to get pregnant. So you might want to tell him or her or both of them to use protection.

Age does impact fertility, but it really depends on your FSH and Estradiol (FSH is your egg quality and supply and Estradiol is basically estrogen -- helps you ovulate).

If she isn't ovulating, she can't get pregnant. Having a bad heart has nothing to do with her reproductive system.

Spoking decreases your chances of conceiving, but it is by no means a birth control.

I would definitely have bloodwork done. If she has an FSH above 15, then it is unlikely that she will conceive.

Hope that helps.
