From my experiences, when i married my husband, and yes we live in the same town as his mom, at the beginning she always called him and always wanted him to come over and do things for her. Even though she had 2 other perfectly capable teens in the house. It took some time but after awhile he told her, in a nice way, that he couldn't keep going over there because he had his own things to do at home. So yes, my answer is that it is true. Mother-in-laws butt in until someone says something about it.

Not true.. My husbands mother lives up the street from us... His family could not accept us being together so they are not welcome in my home and vice versa. My husband was sort of in the middle and chose to stick with me. He has very little contact with them (once every couple of months for a few minutes). They never come over, butt in.. anything. ........ I don't know how "normal" families would work though.

Abso-posi-lutely! The one and only exception would be if your husband can stand up to his mother and tell her to butt out. My father was able to do that, back in the early 1950's, and did it so well that his mother never dared try that again. But a long-ago ex-fiance could not stand up to his mother, and I ended it. Also, my own husband had trouble with it, and it caused problems for us, until he finally caught on, and put her in her place. That caused quite a train in her feelings towards me for quite a while, but it was worth it. to get that third party out of our marriage.

It sure seems like it! My husband and I live maybe five minutes away from his mother's house, and she always butts in! I think she's just jealous though because I'm the number one woman in his life and she's not--she can't control his life anymore and I think it drives her CRAZY!!!

First off, your husband has to decide whether he is your husband or his mommies little boy. If he is mature enough he will choose being your husband. Then you need to establish boundaries with her and your husband MUST enforce them. The more you let her by with interfering the harder it is going to be to have her learn new behavior. Start today!

Good luck!

well, my husband and I live in the same city as MY mother and that's pretty much the deal there, haha, and I would assume it would be the deal if it were his mother.
