I have looked for the integrated sounds chip on the mother board and found it is a sigmatel stac9700s, downloaded a new device driver but it will not install saying the is no device present! On the sounds and audio devices from the control panel it is all grey saying there are no devices connected (my speakers are) and the previous driver is not listed!! It's been driving me mad for weeks now! help!

Please don't say take it to a shop as i'm determined to do it for free!!!

Integrated bios has been checked in set up and is definately on, speakers have been checked and do work, just want to install driver but it won't! :(

borrow someone else's speakers and drivers and load them, if that doesn't work then the connections might not be working if nothing is being detected, if they work buy some new speakers because your's might be no good.

Goto the motherboard manufacturers web site and download the audio driver and install.

Reboot

Open sound recorder and pick up a windows soud and play it.

Do the simple things first - check your speakers are connected to the correct socket - check they are turned on and that if they have a mute button it isnt on. Use another device e.g. mp3 player to check the speakers are working.

Since Windows hasn't found your intergrated sound, it sounds like it's been turned off in BIOS, When you restart your computer, go into BIOS and make SURE the intergrated audio is turned ON.

re install the drivers as they can become corupted
