A lot of a suggestions have been given and I can't think of any more, but when chosing an item, make sure it is something your daughter already knows about. It will be difficult for her to remember a rehearsed speach in front of the class.

Offer guidance, but let her come up with the right item. First, that will make sure that she picks something of interest to her, which means she'll present it to her class with more confidence. Second, it also begins developing the problem-solving skills that this kind of exercise is designed to emphasis (thus the need for an "A" item rather than just anything). If you want her to succeed in school, you need to guide and support, but don't give her the answers!
