Genetics ruled the roost for awhile in theories of homosexuality, however the only consistent theory that most of us in the social sciences can agree on is this; children sexually develop between the ages of 2-6 years old, if the home does not have a stable male/father figure the chances are far greater for the child to be homosexual by environmental conditions set by the female caregiver. Also, ask your friends; most of them will say they don't have a dad or didn't when they were between 2-6 years old. There is also a segment that abuse during those early years have had substantial affects.
I am a gay professional and when the genetics theory arose (again) most of us were skeptical in the conclusions it would bring, still nothing definite.
Based on the clients I have dealt with, it's an easy answer:
ENVIRONMENTAL NOT BORN. I think it was Freud who suggested that ALL children were born asexually perverse (excuse me if that terminology is wrong) and that environmental stimuli created the result.
Just a small note; For anyone that thinks folks decide to be gay; have you ever seen a little boy with his mother who walks with the same feminine swoosh.....do you seriously think that little, innocent soul is making up his mind to be like his mother? NO. We often forget, we are animals - we learn, from the time we fall out the womb. The history of sexuallity is scary if you take a look at Greek history where all the nobles had male companions, there are still tribes/communities in Africa that the tradition is to have a male and a female sexual partner. Several Native American Cultures even thought that gay indians were SPECIAL doctors, healers or they would be honorable allowed to work with the women in their chores. We have a rich history and it's noticable that every culture, country, and people develop their own ideas based on POPULAR beleif. This is the end result, folks. The US is NOT the center of the universe, we are a new country founded on Christian value and structure.....some things never change. But are we more advanced socially than other countries? Take a look around, research these things yourself, you'll be wiser and better off. Best Wishes.

There are many different theories. Probably the most convincing one that I've heard is that a chemical in rats during a certain time of gestation can make the babies "gender confused" which is what lgbtiq falls under. Whether it works this way in humans..... no idea. I read on here that a guy watched a video in chemistry outlining it and saw that it is actually true. I'd say genetics is unlikely otherwise you'd have families that wouldn't reproduce without some form of artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization (ivf).
=) Hoped this has helped you somewhat

We are born this way, some of us go into denial because we feel pressured by society to act a certain way. I don't know why everyone is so interested in our sexual habits, but in the same breath hate us also. Just because we're a little different, but really everyone else is different, we're the normal ones because we're comfortable in our skin.

Because we just are. Why are some people born lefthanded, brown eyed, blond?
Presumably through genetics, but it's not definite either way.
Why should it matter? Really. We're all human beings, we all have emotions, we all have to learn to survive. Many of us have lives, families, daily stressors.
I certainly have no confussion about my gender, I was born a female, I enjoy being female, and will remain female for the rest of my life. I happen to enjoy other females as well.

There are literally hundreds of theories, but the one I find most credible is that homosexuality and bisexuality is actually a form of natural population control, since same sex relationships have a higher chance of occurring in animal populations that are well established.

if I knew the answer I'd have a best selling book on the NY Times. Nobody knows. Scientists can't explain it and the religious explanations are full of crap. It's random and just happens.

all people are "born" gay/straight/bi. as far as homosexuals, due to the stigmas of society, they may be in denial or supress their true selves until they are older. I was "confused" until I was 18, and finally recognized I was "different" and why.
no one "chooses" to be gay or straight. it's genetic.

I think it is just that we are all different if we all wanted the same thing imagine how boring that would be. I mean I like both men and women that makes me bisexual and puts me in the majority some people like only one sex so that makes them mono-sexual and part of the minority.

If we knew ourselves, we wouldn't be answering these questions. I think we would be on a Yacht in the Carribean drinking a martini and playing with our 200,000 dollar cars at home!
