What are your guys thoughts on mixed race relationships? I am in one currently - I am a 21 year old British Asian female and my partner is white. We have been seeing each other for about 5 months whilst working in London. He is a mature, intelligent individual whom is well travelled and very respectful towards my culture. However when I told my parents of the relationship they were upset to say the least - and I feel this wouldnt' be the case if he was Asian. I've spoken to him about it - and his parents are very accepting of me

What are your thoughts? It is so fustrating!

Good Luck. One day the majority of people will be of mixed race and I can see nothing wrong with it at all. It may even make us a more tolerant and fair society. Don't worry about your parents attitude, you are only 21 and they will be concerned about your well-being. Without doubt they would prefer that you were seeing an Asian lad but they are in a difficult position in coming here and watching their children straddling two cultures. I have many friends, of all races, many of them mixed and, although it may be a bold statement, they seem to have a deeper understanding of society in general. Once again good luck.

It can be very frustrating especially that your parents are upset about the relationship. It shouldn’t be a problem if both of you love each other that much. There are things that you need to consider though, like in any other mixed race relationship; you have to deal with the ethnic differences and cultural upbringing. This can be a problem in later time, but as long as you both knew the consequences that may come your way and that both of you are willing to resolve any issues, I don’t think there will be a problem.

At the end of the day you are an individual and you have to do whats right for you, I know Asians are very family orientated but if it feels right carry on. I have a Sikh friend who married a English girl and his family disowned him for 3 years then they came groveling back and to make up for it they brought them a house. You are 21 the ball is in your court

Listen, i am Latino, and my partner is Italian right, we have the most beautiful relationship anyone could ask for, his family accepts me, and mine well...but you know what ask yourself the question is it your parents happiness that is more important or yours?...i mean you only get one life, no re-runs and love i believe is indiscriminent where colour, race. background, religion, and anything else besides. when you fall for someone you dont say oh i love you so much but i cant be with you because your not the same as me do you?...cause that wouldn't make sense, why deny yourself happiness in this life, because we we are sure a long time dead, so enjoy love with your partner here and now.

There is absaloutley nothing wrong with mixed race relationships. Sometimes our parents live in the old days ways and are stuck on it. They may or may not lighten up to the fact that race is unimportant, but if you love your bf and he is everything that YOU think he should be.. then dont listen to what they say.

To some people this type of relationship might be frustrating because people are always steering and talking behind your back, but if you really like the guy, go for it. It shouldn’t matter what his race is.

We don't generally choose who we become attracted to...we just feel the attraction...we choose whether or not to act upon it...if people of differing races, religions, ethnicities, political persuasions, etc want to date then it's nobody's business but theirs....it'll work out or it won't...but no one has the right (or a good reason) to be against it...it simply makes no sense to oppose it...there are no realistic reasons why...
