don't worry. The chances of that being hepatitis are very little. As far as i remember the normal alt is 16 or 20, but the upper limit is 40-50. I have a serious liver problem, and i know a lot about it. For hepatitis a the ALT is usually times above the normal(500-2000)

First of all drinking is not the only thing that causes an increase in ALT. In fact medications, diseases and family history can be factors. Your Dr will check your liver enzymes, do the ultra sound and pinpoint the problem. There are treatments for many liver ailments so I would do my best to remain calm.

That is an elevated level. I have seen much higher in those who do drink. You need to avoid those things that are primarily metabolized in the liver. First one that comes to mind is Tylenol, or acetaminophen. As for what you medical options might be IF your levels go up.....cross that bridge when you come to it. Your doctor is following the correct course of action at this time.
