In the old sense of what alchemy really is, it doesn't work...changing things like lead or iron into gold or silver.
But radioactivity is a naturally occurring event, in which a radioactive element, such as uranium, decays and the atoms, through loss of electrons and protons, become smaller atoms of other elements.

Alchemy is the study of "non science" more spiritual than not, it is still looked down upon. alchemists are looked on as crackpots, known best for the study of transmutation or turning base elements into gold and creating "aqua vitae" or the water of life which could cure all diseases. however alchemists more oftan did metal work for people or created inks for whomsoever needed them
Sir Issac Newton was an alchemist

it doesn't but the theory goes that you can transmute base metals like lead into valuable metals like gold. it was a combination of magic and chemicals and never actually worked.
