I am from the Netherlands and I neither like our Royal Family nor dislike them. There "function" is mainly ceremonial and I am okay with that. I also wouldn't like a politician as a head of state and money is not an issue. Keeping presidential elections are very expensive too and even in a Republic you would have to pay for the upkeep of these palaces.
Just leave things as they are.

I agree that before Princess Diana and Charles got married I didn't think that much if anything about them.
I do like them as I see their humanity and feel just terrible about how little privacy the receive. The times that I have seen the Queen on the tele I think she is a mos gracious, humble and funny person. I love that she likes to go to the track and bet on the ponies!
I have great sympathy for them because they are such easy targets for people's frustration in their lives and feelings of helplessness. I am glad that a part of history is preserved through them. I am fascinated by the ceremonies and protocol that they keep as it is so foreign to me.
We are fortunate to have them (all of the royals) to remind us of how things were and that all people are the same ultimately. Same problems, same joys, same sadness, etc.
I have never met any of them but I know they had no choice about being born royal, just as I had no choice about not being royal so give them a break, please.

They are nothing more than an embarrassment and a tax burden! They live in detached opulence while the economy and standard of living is being flushed down the loo!
This is the same for every modern royal family. This is the 21st Century, we should no longer be bowing and scraping before Kings and Queens.

I don't like them and think they cost us taxpayers far too much, especially all the distant royals who nobody's ever heard of but they still get a load of money from us for nothing. I think tourists would come to our country with or without the royals so we should just get rid of them. I don't know any younger people who want or think we need the royal family. Jim Royle on the other hand is a good un!!

The royals give britian something that makes us stand apart from other countries such as america(where money means alot and a complete moron makes very important decisions(bush)) . I served in the armed forces for a few years and swore allegiance even though i am now a civvy i would still fight and even die for my queen and country should i need to.
