I personally believe that just about anything can be a method of control if you choose to look at it that way, don't ya think? I do believe, however, that saving yourself for marriage is not a method of control or a sacrifice but rather a selfless "present" to the marriage you give to your future spouse. Not only have you saved yourself for that spouse only, but you have held the thought of marriage in your heart as a one-time union that will never end. I think that present would be something anyone would want.

I beg to differ. My faith (Christian) has built into it standards that others do not necessarily appreciate nor understand. For you to dismiss 'religion' as a "method of control" is ridiculous. We each abide by standards we believe are relevant, some more strictly (or religiously) than others. Abstenance (from any vice) is an important practice for many reasons (self-discipline, personal integrity, safety). As fulfilling as sex is, it is not something that anyone should force on anyone, nor use to judge anyone (as non-Christians do not want others shoving the gospel down their throats). Promiscuity is no sign of enlightenment.

I'm a virgin, but not because I'm a religious freak. I don't find my self old enough to loose my virginity. Also, I think it would be better to wait until I get married or when I feel I'm old enough..loose it to someone I truly love. That's just what I feel comfortable with.

Interesting that one person immediately answered on this question with a Christian answer. People are not getting it. There are more religions that Christianity. Could there not be a religious Jewish virgin for instance? To answer your question it is no, I am 74 , and I am spiritual not religious. There is a difference.
