We've got one already - that's why we are in the state we are. The people have made their feelings clear on several important issues and Blair etc has just gone right ahead and followed his nose and not listened one iota to common sense or reason.
I would sign up to support a party that exercised common sense, was not out to look after its own interests and believed in being more in touch with ordinary folk, ie. only earning the national average wage and not having any additional jobs/consultancies etc.

go live in a different country then!
i hear cuba is a nice dictatorship these days, the prostitution and poverty isnt all that bad apparently.
zimbabwe seems to be doing well under mugabe doesnt it! i think the killings per day is down in the low hundreds now.
the british people fought wars to end dictatorships my friend, if your dream came true and a dictator took over the country, people like you, people who fail to see how to be civilised, will be the first to be sent to the salt mines to be worked to death.
you are in a minority here and you are in a minority in england.
im white and english and agree that blair has cocked things up royally.
you'd have to be a total idiot to actually want a dictatorship.

We don't have a democracy in the UK, we have a Monarchy. The political parties here are ALL afraid of true democracy! no matter what they spout about it.
Democracy UK style = ticking a box every 4 years, voting in one indistuinguishable grey suited nobody who then goes on to do exactly what he/she damn well wants to.
If we had true deomocracy the death penalty for serious crime would be reintroduced as the majority support it, but do you see this happening in 'democratic' Britain??

Too late mate..
Sadly democracy, certainly in all the forms of government it has so far existed in, doesn't really work. It kind a gets about half way there and then falls flat on it's face.
I think we do need something new but that's the key.. Something new. So far dictatorships haven't been all that sucessful.

Dictators may have more power to straighten some of a country's problems out, but in "straightening out" they cause more problems and usually end up killing thousands of innocent people

The UK is only a democracy at election time. So said Rousseau many years ago. Between elections it is a dictatorship of the party in power.
"The English people believes itself to be free; it is gravely mistaken; it is free only during election of members of parliament; as soon as the members are elected, the people is enslaved; it is nothing. In the brief moment of its freedom, the English people makes such a use of that freedom that it deserves to lose it."

Hmm, lets see, a dictator would be someone who just goes ahead and does what he wants, imposing his view and will on the population no matter the opposition, one who ignores protest and does everything short of violent resistance to stay in power for as long as he can. Sounds like we have one already.

In ancient Rome, dictators were appointed to sort out a specific crisis then were expected to stand down. Could you see Blair or any modern politician doing this?

I think history tells us how successful dictatorships are - Not.
This government may have its faults but at least we are free to tell them thay are wrong & not live in fear of retribution all the time.
