I would say that it depends on other conditions that I would bring with me. Assuming that you mean that any war in history, if it was the case that I would simply be participating and not having any significant effect on the result, then I would answer none. Despite the romantic portraits of battle that are sometimes painted, fighting against other human beings is a truly repulsive act if there is no reason for it.
However, if I could have a major effect on the outcome, I would want to join the British Expeditionary Force in the fields of France in 1914 in order to alter the war from one of stalemated trench warfare into one where the allies would be able to advance into Germany in an effort to shorten the war. My guess is that a shorter war would cause less resentment for a defeated Germany and thus more generous terms of peace. With that, I suspect that Germany would be less likely to produce a Nazi regime and hence the horrors of the Second World War.
