I am 6 mo preg and I smoke about 10 cigs a day. (Maybe more on the weekend) and drink a little vodka a few times a week. My husband tells me if i'm going to drink to drink beer. My mom drank and smoked and I turned out ok so I am not concerned from a health stand point. Would beer be better?

Actually you shouldn't be drinking alcohol at all while pregnant. You could give your baby fetal alcohol syndrome and cause some serious birth defects. Smoking could even cause some negative effects on your baby. One drink once in awhile is not a big issue but if you are drinking vodka a few times a week for six months. You are doing some serious harm. Let say a few is five. You have done it for 6 months which is about 26 weeks. You have drank 130 glasses or shots of vodka. I would honestly stop drinking and ask speak to your obgyn about what harm this can do to your child. Please read the link below.

Just because you got lucky and it didn't have any affect on you doesn't mean it is going to be the same for you. There is a reason why doctors tell you not to drink or smoke while pregnant.

I smoked and drank when I was pregnant too. That was 40 years ago. Unfortunately (and unbelievably) doctors then didn't realize everything taken by mouth, nose, and ears into a mother's body also goes into the fetus. That includes food, fluids, sound, and drugs. And if beer is different from hard booze, not causing drunkeness and obesity, it sure would surprise millions of people. Drunkeness is based, in part, on body weight. How much do you weigh, and how much does your unborn infant weigh?

Even though I took mega-vitamins she was born with weak kidneys, asthma, and a microprolapse valve. Forgot to mention I was on a heavy dose of sulfa in my first tri-mester and she's allergic to all sulfa-based meds which is what's used to fight kidney infections, which she's had since infancy. (Had 2 kidney operations by the time she was 15.)

After 39 years of smoking and drinking, I quit. That was 17 years ago. You've only got three months to go before delivery. Don't you want your baby to have all the best in life? Including one that's healthy? Can't you stop smoking and drinking for just three months?

A little soft music occasionally would probably be appreciated by baby, too. Sure wish I would've known everything they know today when I was carrying. You're lucky...take advantage of it.

May you have an easy delivery and a healthy baby.

really you turned out OK.. it is always those people that say that... My body is the filter for the baby... hellO!!!! do you know what year it is.. and your husband... you both shouldn't be able to procreate.. this is why we still have people making these mistakes.. you need to be DRUG FREE!!! smoking and drinking is included here... BABY is first.. put your self aside... baby doesn't make the choice if he wants a drink or a hit.. come one.. when your kid has ADAH and drives you crazy remember.. it was everything you put in your body that *ucked up its brain..and lungs.. Don't mean to be mean .. but please your baby needs a healthy start.. and we all know smoking and drinking isn't healthy.. so if you are asking then I know you can change your habit to a better one.. Water and good food and long walks ... good luck

plus how wants there kids just OK why can't they be just so wonderful and at the top of the game... good luck

well a little alcohol isn't really a problem, but its when you start to have multiple drinks throughout a 24 hour period, I don't think it matters if its in the form of beer or vodka, obviously proportions matter. Cigarettes can cause Jaundice I think, besides being just generally bad for the baby the same way all the poisons are bad for you, buy hey, as Al Pacino said in the greatest movie of all time, ''you could get killed walking your doggie!" so don't stress too much

Your an idiot and absolute idiot, sorry but that is how I feel. First off smoking causes low birth weight which can cause other growth problems in your child as he or she gets older also have you ever heard of fetal alcohol syndrome no amount of alcohol is good for an unborn child. The medical standards have come a long way since you were born I am sure and tests have shown that neither in any amount are defiantly no good for an unborn child. Ask your Dr se what he says

Your mom and the rest of the world didn't know about the health risks back then.

People didn't always know that tobacco is bad for them.

Drinking and smoking while pregnant is a BAD idea. Personally, I think they should take your child away from you. You want to try cocaine next?

Sharing rat poison (yeah, it's in cigs) with your baby is not a great thing to be joking about. I still think you're an idiot.

Have you ever heard of fetal alcohal syndrome? Have you ever heard that smoking causes babies to be smaller...in a very unhealthy way??? It is time that you grow up. If you aren't going to do what's best for your child now, are you ever? You need to stop thinking about what you WANT, and act on the NEEDS of your child. Saying that your mom drank and smiked with you and you turned out fine is the most selfish statement you can make. Your mom was LUCKY that you turned out fine. Obviously you didn't turn out fine, or else you wouldn't be intentionally putting your innocent child at risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and other birth defects. GROW UP!

Your child could have severe health problems. You were lucky if you are ok and your mom smoked and drank, but it's not always the case. Just be smart and don't drink or smoke for the sake of your baby.

I hope you are not serious...just because your mom drank and smoked and things were fine with you does not mean jack about the baby you are carrying now. Which is a form of child abuse anyway. It is apparent her drinking and smoking while pregnant with you must have done something because it is making you do the same thing which is stupid and selfish.

Do your homework on drinking and smoking while pregnant...you are hurting your baby by doing that garbage...yes it is garbage.

Someone should call CPS on you for abusing your baby by feeding your face with cigarettes and liquor.

are you not very smart? oh-wait it's because your mother smoked and drank while pregnant with you. Don't you see that it did something bad to you? Are you not seeing a doctor? Because if you were they would've told you to quit cold turkey. Your baby is going to have fetal alcohol syndrome (you probably had it) and asthma from you smoking and all sorts of problems. You shouldn't even be able to have a child if your not concerned from a health stand point.
