Does it help to delete files which frees up hard drive space available??

Yes, you need to make sure there's free space on your hard drive (usually 20% of the drive capacity or so is recommended) When Windows runs out of RAM, it will swap data out to the hard drive in a temporary file - that process is known as paging.

You can also help matters by adding more RAM, so you don't get into that situation as often. So if you've only got 256mb, add 512mb and watch things go a LOT more smoothly.

yes. you would get better performance, however, by upgrading ram.
