basically we don't know what imagery means, but if you could help us out with that and the stuff from the story it would be alot of help.

OK--an English teacher here who's not back to school yet...

I've taught this book before, but I'm not quite sure myself what your teacher must mean by "imagery". Does that mean symbolism? The details of the setting that help make the mood? Unfortunately, I have no copy in front of me, but if memory serves, it was a rather dark and ominous feel.

My guess is that the teacher told this in class and you just didn't really understand (it can be a difficult concept) and therefore don't recall it either. You'd better humbly ask for help again.

Sorry I couldn't do better for you.

Imagery is any poetic reference to the five senses (sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste). Essentially, imagery is a group of words that create a mental image. Such images can be created by using figures of speech such as similes, metaphors, personification, and assonance.

"the darkness pressed on his eyelids like a wet blanket" is in the first few pages (I love this story). It appeals to one of the five senses and is a similie, and thus it is a form of imagery.
