I used to have this problem until 'mum' suggested sterilizing tablets, you know the ones that make baby things white and sterile. Now i soak any discoloured whites before washing and they come up really white. I found that bleach turns whites a bit yellow, and other products just dont seem to work ;)

Check for this stuff called "bluing." It was used in the "olden" days (even before my time). But it works great. You only put a couple of drops in the water and the white stuff comes out really white. If you use it every time on new things they never dull. You can use it in the wash water or put it in the rinse water. I put it in the wash water on older things and in the rinse water on things that have not gotten dull yet.

This stuff comes in a small bottle so really look hard in the laundry section. I found it at Fred Meyer, but I don't know if there is a Fred Meyer where you live.

Good luck, I think you will like this stuff.

I an addition to the advice on taking out the yellowing mineral salts and soap residue you need to use bluing. A slight bluing of white material cools the color which makes it seem whiter and clearer. This why most detergents you buy have blue dye in them, though it usually is not enough to help much. So follow the preceeding instructions on removing the yellowing deposits then in the final rinse add Mrs. Stewart's bluing "for the whitest whites!"

Try a bit of bleech in your wash, clothes come up whiter than white then. The reason they don't come up as new is because your colour washing leaves a very thin layer of dye in the wash and this causes whites to dull down. Hope this helps.

It's actually caused by soap residue that never rinses out of the clothing. Put a cup of vinegar in with your load of whites, it will help remove the soap from the clothing. Hard water can also cause the clothes to yellow.

Although the Vanish Oxyaction spray is good the powder that you soak them in is far better. I wore a new maroon coloured top with white trousers and the colour stained the trousers. Nothing got it out until I soaked them in Oxeaction powder. The colour completely came out and they were as white as when they were new. Works a treat on white underwear too!

Wash them only with other whites and put a cup of baking soda in with the wash. They actually will get very white again.

You only should wash whites with whites only and no colored clothes. Using to much bleach can turn them yellow I use oxiclean with my detergent and they come out real white...Always use a detergent paste or shout under the armpits of any shirt and around the collar and then wash and they should come out real nice.

It's not necessary true. If you are washing them with other color, the chance is that they are not gonna be as white as you first purchase them. Why don't you just wash all white clothes and put bleach...it'll be white.

because once u buy like a nice white blazer for example it will look very elllegent but the second time u wear it and wash it the color starts to fade and if u have the blazer for a long time time things do happen.
