Nail biting is a hard habit to break. I've heard of this, but since I don't bite my nails I haven't ever tried it;

However, if you really want to just stop naturally, here are a few pointers.
1. Decide that you are going to stop. Pick a day and say that's it. No more nibbling. Now here are a few little ways to help.
2. There are some bitter tasting liquids that can painted onto the nails. I don't know anyone who actually liked the taste, so this is going to slow you down and give your nails a little time to start growing.
3. The minute you wash your hands, re-apply the liquid mentioned above. This will also focus attention on your hands and the nails which should be visible by now.
4. Keep an emery board in every room and one in your backpack or purse. The minute you notice a snag, use the emery board and not your teeth.
5. Buy a few bottles of pretty polish and some hand cream. You are going to keep your nails polished and your hands soft. In a weeks time, you are going to notice a difference.
6. Once a biter, always a biter. I have stopped, but it only takes a snag for me to revert back to old habits. I have to follow these tips too.
7. You might have been looking for a magical way to stop biting your nails, but I'm afraid that there is no such thing. You simply have to put your mind to it and stop!
8. Will power is an amazing thing. If you want something badly enough, you can do it. If you want pretty nails, you are the only person who can stop it from happening.

I tried everything to stop biting my nails, putting polish on them, horrible tasting stuff, plasters/band aids, but nothing worked. Then i managed to stop. I recently realised that the reason why I was able to stop was because I started cracking my knuckles instead. Now I dont reccomend this to anyone but what I am trying to say is that you need to replace this habot with something else that is less destructive. For me I didnt do it the right way but you have a chance.
Find a habit that is good and replace biting you nails with it.
If I could think of a good example maybe I would be able to stop cracking my knuckles which is a habit that noone should ever take up.

Add a few drops of hot sauce (your choice) to clear nail polish. It burns and makes you not want to bite your nails. I had great nails for a while, but I gave up on it and went back to my old habits. The hot sauce might turn the nail polish a different color, but not to much to tell.

I've been a nail bitter for many years. The only way I've been able to stop is to get nails applied by a professional. This works for me!

Like any other bad habit you want to break, you have to really "WANT" to break it. All habits can be substituted for other habits, and many suggestions here that I have read are great IF you really WANT to quit biting your nails. I still bite my nails once in a while, but only because I am too lazy to clip them and can never find a good pair of scissors to use. And yes, the one I want to 'trim' I end up biting too far and suffer later...
Remember, you have to psyche yourself out, search for your inner strength and give yourself the power to believe you CAN & Will stop. Using things on your fingers never work, unless you bit too far & you put somethin HOT on the wounds to remind you waht you did.
Every day tell yourself, every moment you have, I "will" quit. Also remind yourself of all the fine points sugested here --- Bad for you. Germs that your fingers carry. Looks gross! Hurts.
You have to believe :-)
Good luck
Works for me...

Every time you go to bite your nails think of all the things you touched that day, all the germs & dirt on your fingers, all the bacteria you could be putting in your mouth that can cause an infection or gross fungus.
This may sound over-exagerated, but it helps you stop.

First off biting your nails is very bad, if you continue to bite them they could actually stop growing & you wont have any nail.
They do have special polishes that taste bad, so it helps prevent biting. You could also try painting them so that they're really pretty, if they look nice it may discourage biting.
If none of that works try getting a gel overlay (gel is less harmful than acrylic, & looks more natural).
