ok..first thing you need to do is earn some respect from them. do those jobs around the house that they're always nagging you about and even some things that they never ask you to do. remember, they won't think you're responsible enough to handle your own fishtank until you've followed through with your own chores. second thing you need to do is save up your money until you have enough to buy the right size fishtank, fish, and supplies. after you have enough money and have been doing chores on time for awhile, then ask them. be mature and serious when you ask! i hoped this helped you!

Do some research on aquariums and show your parents how easy it is to take care of a tank after you get it set up and running. Go to "About.com" and follow their links to setting up and maintaining a freshwater tank. Print it out so they can see you are serious.
Explain how you will do regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water changes to keep the fish healthy and happy. Also mention that doing the water changes means no bad smell from the water.
Tell them that you will get hardy, easy to take care of fish that are pretty to look at and fun to watch. You could get livebearers that will teach you about life by reproducing right there in the tank.
Just make sure you do it correctly right from the start so they can't come back with an "I told you so," later if something goes wrong.

Depends on how responsible u r. However if your folks are really against the idea, then perhaps they know something u don't. Maybe it's a good idea to play along with them =))

start doing things around the house and showing that you are capable of doing things on your own , soon or later they would have to give in .. and let you buy what you want:)
