Go to your computer's manufacturer's website and go to SUPPORT and enter your computer's model number for specifications.

I suggest you go to Memory Ten at http://www.memoryten.com. From the homepage, you will see a button that says "Check My Computer". If you click on it, the Web site will automatically detect what system you are running and will tell you what memory is compatible with your motherboard. This saves you from the hassle of opening up the computer or digging through the users manual to find this information.

Try Sisoft Sandra. It's free and will tell you quite a bit about what's inside your PC. I haven't used it in a while so I am not 100% sure that it will tell you the manufacturer of your motherboard. It will tell you speeds and setings though.
There is a non-free version, but you most liekly will not need it.

when you turn on the computer, the first thing it will display will be information about the system itself.
You can usually press to enter the bios mode that will let you review what's installed : memory, hard drive etc.
