I think it is one of the best books ever written. It captures the truth in words you would never use. Holden's character grows so much and so little. He is such a 3 dimensional character. The only criticism that people have about it is that it doesn't have a real story, so it is boring, but look at a lot of other fiction and movies and you see that they all go by the same format of a rising plot. The author uses a different format as an experiment that I think works fine for the characters. Usually, a story is based around plot, but this is based around an excellent character.

honestly, of all the books ive ever read i think this is the only one i would recomend 100% to someone without hesitation. I think this is an amazing book. It really brings out the coming of age and the innocence holden is trying to preserve in children (thus being the catcher in the rye). i think this book is just amazingly writen and has alot of hidden meaning, so if you dont "actively read" then yea it might be pretty boring.

One of the best books ever. I liked it so much I read it entirely in one day (which has only happened in like 3 times). I didn't have to read the book for school. I saw a movie called Conspiracy Theory and was wondering what all the talk and paranoia surrounding this book was so I grabbed it. Best quality of book was the honest and reality of it as shown through Holden Caufield.

Very good, it is a book I read over every decade just to see how I have changed and how I see life different then when I first read it in high school. Some books are like those songs we hear and remember an exact location and time when we were listening to them.

I've taught the book several times and generally take the approach that Holden is both pro/antagonist, especially in character development--every time he encounters a new character or situation he may take one step forward but oftentimes takes two steps back in the process.

I enjoyed it. Good "comin of age" story. Well written. So sad that he was crazy. I have a copy & I am keeping it since it's a classic. It's alo an easy-read & it's pretty short.

I really liked it. I don't think it had any profound impact on my life or anything, but it was an interesting read, Holden was a good character and it was well written. I'd recommend it.

One of the greatest classics and social commentaries ever written. People who don't get it, haven't been there I also think that there are some who don't want to admit that they have been there.

I personally could not get in to it. My daughter said she enjoyed it. I will probably try to read it again some time in the future.
